Compare units before comparing app rating service pricing

Providers may quote a session, a participant, a report, a subscription or a credit. Write the unit and the acceptance criteria beside every price. Ask whether a report includes an attempted task, device and build context, and whether follow-up or retesting is included. Do not assume two differently named units represent the same amount of work. An install alone does not explain what a person observed after opening the app.

For RateMyApp, 30 credits fund one approved private testing report. Community stars are optional and public store ratings are independent. A pack therefore gives a report-funding capacity, not a promise that a particular number of people will rate the app. Availability and the reporting workflow still affect completion. Include those limits when comparing a community model with a scheduled research session or a managed testing service.

Understand pack capacity and the welcome allowance

The current Quick test pack contains 30 credits for $0.59 USD. That funds one approved report. The larger packs lower the effective cost per report, as shown in the table. These are one-time credit packs; check the pricing page and checkout for the current purchase terms before paying. This article does not convert a credit price into a public-rating price.

Eligible new accounts currently receive 60 welcome credits after email verification, enough to fund two approved reports if participants complete the workflow. Use the allowance to see whether the reports answer a useful question. A successful first round can justify more testing, but unused capacity is not automatically good value. Choose the smallest plan that covers a task you can review and improve.

Budget the work around the reports

Include the time needed to prepare safe access, support participants, clarify reports and verify fixes. Your team might spend more time interpreting vague feedback than collecting it. Write a simple budget with expected reports, report funding, preparation, triage and retests. Mark estimates clearly until you have completed your own round. Do not publish an assumed success rate or guaranteed rating uplift as if it were measured.

A useful report may expose a blocker that requires another build and another round. Keep a retest allowance in the budget rather than using every credit on the first wave. If you need a specific audience, language or device, verify availability before expanding. A general community is not a guarantee of specialist coverage. The cost should support the decision your team needs to make, not a target number of favorable opinions.

Keep public-rating promises out of the purchase decision

Check whether a supplier conditions payment on a public review, a favorable score or screenshot proof of a posted rating. That is a different arrangement from paying for documented private work. Store rules govern public submissions regardless of the supplier's description. Rewarded TestFlight participation also has a separate restriction in Apple's guidance. Review the relevant distribution and review rules before committing to a workflow.

After a round, evaluate report completeness, clarification effort and whether the observations changed a decision. Keep rating count separate from report count. If the task was too broad, improve the brief before buying more capacity. If the audience was unsuitable, change recruitment rather than expecting a larger pack to fix that mismatch. The practical next step is a scoped report budget with clear evidence requirements and known limits.

USE THIS IN YOUR NEXT ROUND

Working example

Illustrative budget: an owner plans five approved reports about one onboarding journey. At 30 credits each, the funding requirement is 150 credits. The current Starter pack is $1.99 USD, making the effective pack cost $0.40 per approved report if all five are completed. The owner separately estimates preparation, report review and retesting time. No number of community stars or public reviews is entered as a purchased deliverable. This calculation describes current pack capacity, not a completion guarantee, response-time promise or return-on-investment forecast. Check available credits before purchasing additional capacity.

Your next steps

  • Record the quoted unit, report fields and acceptance criteria for every provider.
  • Compare current pack capacity and cost per approved report, rather than cost per public star.
  • Budget preparation, clarification, fixes and retests alongside the provider fee.
  • Start with a task you can review, then expand using the usefulness of actual reports.
