Audit what the package actually promises
A quote for fifty reviews should specify who uses the app, how their experience is recorded and whether a score is required. Guaranteed five-star reviews, replacement promises after deletion and prewritten testimonials are warning signs. Apple prohibits review manipulation. Do not treat a provider’s screenshots or a small completed order as evidence that the next campaign complies with store rules.
Compare outcomes rather than review counts
A written usability report can identify that your registration code expires too early, a paywall hides the price or a device cannot complete the main task. A public rating gives you less diagnostic detail. Compare providers on sample reports, device coverage, privacy controls and dispute handling. Require a real defect report to qualify for payment; usefulness should not mean agreement with your marketing.
Build credibility with visible product work
Publish accurate screenshots, answer support questions and document changes following beta feedback. Invite actual users to leave their own store opinion using the platform’s supported process. Keep participation voluntary. A new app with few authentic ratings can still explain its value clearly. Filling the gap with manufactured praise creates a trust problem that better screenshots cannot repair.
Working example
Vendor comparison example: Proposal A promises twenty five-star store posts with supplied text. Proposal B offers ten private onboarding sessions with device details and recordings shared with consent. The second gives you something you can independently inspect and improve. It still requires careful contracting and privacy handling; a research label alone is not proof of good practice.
Your next steps
- Reject guaranteed scores or copied review text.
- Request a sample private report before paying.
- Define tasks and evidence in the brief.
- Ask how complaints and personal data are handled.
