Ask whether the content violates a rule
A complaint about a real crash or confusing charge is different from spam about another product. Read the current reporting criteria and describe the relevant violation narrowly. Save the report rather than repeatedly submitting the same accusation. A reviewer’s failure to contact your support team first does not establish that the review is invalid or that their experience did not occur.
Make the response useful to future readers
Address the issue without arguing about the score. State a confirmed fix or a specific support step. If the team lacks enough information, ask for build and device context privately. Avoid publishing account records to prove the user wrong. People reading the product page can judge how the team handles a difficult situation; an aggressive response can create an additional reason not to install.
Do not confuse a rating reset with deletion
Apple allows a summary-rating reset with a new version, but it does not remove written reviews. The decision also leaves a smaller rating sample and should be considered carefully. A reset is not a general reputation-repair process. Keep your release evidence, support themes and user outcomes as the basis for deciding what changed, rather than trying to hide historical criticism.
Working example
Example decision: a review says the app loses notes after signing out. Even if the owner cannot reproduce it immediately, assign a data-integrity investigation and request safe reproduction details. A separate spam review linking to an unrelated service can be reported under the relevant policy. Those two records need different actions; the number of stars does not determine the response.
Your next steps
- Report policy violations rather than ordinary criticism.
- Reply with a verified support step.
- Never publish private customer records.
- Evaluate rating resets separately from review removal.
