Identify whether the person actually opted out

A missing feedback report does not necessarily mean the Google account opted out of the test. Conversely, an installation screenshot does not establish continuous eligibility. Check the available console status and ask a narrow access question when needed. Avoid requesting passwords, private account records or unrelated personal screenshots as proof. Record observable participation rather than guessing from message activity.

Recruit reserves without changing the evidence

Plan for some participants becoming unavailable. Invite compatible replacements with enough time to satisfy their own continuous opt-in period where required. Explain the expected commitment before they join. Keep device coverage balanced; adding several identical phones may restore a headcount but leave an important crash untested. Do not promise the original production-application date until eligibility is confirmed again.

Make follow-up tasks easy to complete

Long, repetitive assignments can reduce participation. Give short tasks connected to fixes and explain how each report affects the release. Acknowledge access problems promptly and identify the current build. Keep any compensation attached to documented private work, not public review posting. Useful negative findings should be accepted even when they reveal that the app is not ready to launch.

USE THIS IN YOUR NEXT ROUND

Working example

Follow-up example: ‘Build 9 fixes the import failure reported last week. Please repeat only the import task and record whether it completes on your device. Your previous observations remain useful.’ If a participant cannot continue, update your schedule and recruit another eligible tester. Do not describe an interrupted round as complete simply to keep a promotional launch date.

Your next steps

  • Separate opt-out status from missing messages.
  • Allow time for a replacement’s own continuous opt-in.
  • Keep follow-up tasks brief and relevant.
  • Recheck eligibility before committing a launch date.
