Test comprehension before requesting payment
Show the offer and ask what the person expects to pay, receive and keep after cancellation. Let them read the interface without explaining it first. Check whether a one-time pack looks like a subscription or whether the trial price obscures the later amount. Avoid invented discount urgency and unsupported ‘unlimited’ claims; verify every entitlement against the actual plan.
Use the supported sandbox for integration checks
Follow the payment provider’s current test instructions and approved sandbox accounts. Do not ask research participants to submit real card charges simply to test code. Check confirmed entitlement delivery, cancellation, interrupted return and recovery where supported. A success screen before provider confirmation is not enough evidence that a purchase settled or the account received access exactly once.
Retest access after interruption
Close and reopen the app, restore a previous purchase and check another eligible device or session where relevant. Verify that declined or unpaid attempts grant nothing. Keep test receipts and report fields clearly labeled as sandbox evidence, with no confidential payment details. Monitor genuine production transactions separately after launch, without turning integration QA into an unnecessary live purchase.
Working example
Research question: ‘In your own words, what does this plan cost now and later, and what happens if you cancel?’ Integration checklist: approved sandbox payment, delayed confirmation, repeated return and account restart. Use dummy data and the provider’s test payment method. The combined results should state both comprehension findings and technical limits rather than a single unqualified ‘payments work’ claim.
Your next steps
- Test offer comprehension without coaching.
- Verify plan claims against entitlements.
- Use provider-supported sandbox payments.
- Check confirmed access, retries and account recovery.
Turn the next test into something useful.
