Choose the scope before assigning points
Pick one supported build and an outcome a user should reach, such as creating a note and finding it after restarting. Record the device, operating system, account state and permissions. A passing result for that journey does not establish that every feature works. If two people test different builds or starting states, keep their reports separate instead of averaging them into an unexplained app grade.
Use a rubric that exposes missing evidence
The free RateMyApp scorecard has ten equally weighted checks across clarity, first use, reliability, interaction and trust. Observed pass earns two points, needs work earns one and not checked earns zero. The total becomes a score out of 100, alongside the number checked. This is an original self-assessment rubric, not a recognized certification or automated inspection. An unchecked item lowers the rubric score but is missing evidence rather than a proven defect.
Turn disagreement into the next test
Ask which observation supports each grade. One tester may understand a label that another cannot find; the difference can suggest a fresh-participant test rather than a debate about who is right. Keep reproduction steps and uncertainty with the score. On RateMyApp, a tester can optionally publish a community star rating after submitting feedback. That opinion does not certify the app, and a favorable score is not a condition of the testing reward.
Working example
Illustrative round: five checks pass, two need work and three remain untested. The rubric gives 60/100 with evidence coverage of seven out of ten. The next brief asks a fresh participant to find the main action, then repeats the restart task on another supported device. These are fictional inputs, not a real app's grade, conversion result or store rating. Save the observations before using the score in a release discussion.
