Confirm your own request path first

Log the eligible milestone, build, platform and request attempt without collecting a user’s rating. Check whether navigation interrupts the scene, whether a cooldown prevents the call and whether the app is foregrounded. An analytics event at a button tap may not prove that the review API was reached. Test the path in a controlled environment before changing production timing.

Use the right test environment

Apple documents that the StoreKit request has no effect in TestFlight-distributed beta apps. Google provides separate guidance for internal-track testing and a fake review manager for integration tests. A local success is not proof of production display. Follow the platform’s current test instructions and record which behavior the test establishes instead of asking beta testers to force a public review.

Design a safe result when no prompt appears

The app must remain usable if the store suppresses the dialog. Do not add repeated calls, fake star interfaces or sentiment questions to work around eligibility. A deliberate persistent route to the store can be separate from an automatic request, subject to current guidance. Treat quota values and display rules as provider-controlled details, not parameters your campaign can guarantee.

USE THIS IN YOUR NEXT ROUND

Working example

Debug record: ‘The save milestone fired in build 42, the app was foregrounded and the review request method was called. This was a TestFlight build, so no StoreKit dialog was expected.’ That evidence narrows the question immediately. A report saying ‘ratings broken’ does not distinguish app code from provider-controlled behavior or an unsupported testing context.

Your next steps

  • Record build, distribution channel and request attempt.
  • Use the provider’s supported testing workflow.
  • Keep no-dialog behavior usable.
  • Avoid repeated requests to force a review interface.
