Identify which app version the person used

A TestFlight build can contain features or defects that are absent from the store version. Ask for the build number and distribution channel in every report. If a user later tries the public release, that is another experience with potentially different behavior. Do not copy beta observations into a store-review script or ask participants to imply they used a version they did not install.

Do not use beta prompt behavior as proof

Apple’s StoreKit documentation says review requests have no effect in TestFlight-distributed apps. A missing prompt therefore does not automatically indicate an integration defect. Validate your own eligibility code and fallback behavior in the supported environments. Keep an explicit record of what the beta can prove, such as onboarding usability, rather than claiming it validates production review display.

Keep the task concrete and check distribution rules

Give participants a task and ask for observations, reproduction steps and device context. Apple's Guideline 2.2 restricts TestFlight distribution in exchange for compensation of any kind. Keeping feedback private does not remove that restriction. RateMyApp link support is not permission to attach rewards to TestFlight participation. Community stars remain on RateMyApp; neither a completed brief nor a high beta score guarantees final App Store approval or a favorable public review.

USE THIS IN YOUR NEXT ROUND

Working example

A good beta invitation says: ‘Install build 18 using TestFlight, try importing a sample document and report where the flow breaks. Include your iPhone model and iOS version. No public store review is required.’ If the public release is different, run a separate release check. Keep both report sets labeled so the team does not diagnose a release issue from outdated beta evidence.

Your next steps

  • Collect build and distribution channel in every report.
  • Expect no StoreKit review dialog in TestFlight.
  • Check Apple's TestFlight compensation restriction before recruitment.
  • Retest the public release when behavior differs.
