Choose one eligible milestone

Describe the moment of value in product terms before writing the call. A saved export or completed lesson can be meaningful; opening the app for the first time rarely provides enough experience. Do not ask whether the user is happy before deciding to request a public opinion. Keep the criterion independent of sentiment, purchases of a review reward or a promised score.

Check lifecycle and fallback behavior

Use the appropriate current StoreKit API for your app architecture and active scene. Avoid placing the request in a path that disappears during navigation. The system manages display eligibility, so the app must continue if no interface appears. Do not connect a visible ‘Rate now’ button to a method whose automatic dialog may be suppressed without considering a supported explicit store route.

Record exactly what each test proves

Development behavior differs from TestFlight and production. Apple documents that the request has no effect in TestFlight builds. Test code execution, scene selection, saved state and no-dialog behavior locally, then keep provider display evidence separate. A request log is not a review-submission log. Review the current documentation when SDK behavior changes, rather than keeping an old integration assumption indefinitely.

Working example

Test matrix example: eligible completed task, unfinished task, request suppressed by app cooldown, inactive scene and return after navigation. For each case, record whether your code called StoreKit and whether the app retained the user’s work. Do not ask a tester to give five stars as proof that the integration works; the research report should describe behavior, not public sentiment.

Your next steps

  • Define eligibility in terms of completed use.
  • Check active scene and navigation timing.
  • Test the no-dialog path.
  • Distinguish request attempts from submitted reviews.
