Inspect the public-review requirement

Google’s ratings, reviews and installs policy addresses fraudulent or incentivized activity intended to manipulate placement. A task that requires a rating before payout is not the same as a usability assignment. Avoid providers that advertise fixed scores, guaranteed ranking gains or disguised accounts. There is no vendor certificate that overrides the policy applicable to your developer account.

Keep closed testing focused on the release

Closed testing should help you find defects and collect evidence of meaningful participation. Do not bolt a positive review requirement onto a tester invitation. Test participation and production-access eligibility are assessed through Google’s workflow, not through a seller’s dashboard. A purchased public review cannot replace eligible continuous opt-in or accurate answers about what you changed during testing.

Choose an observable private task

Ask testers to install the appropriate build, attempt a core journey and report the build, device and outcome. Separate compensation from store activity and sentiment. For example, reward an informative report about a crash even when the tester cannot finish. Review the current policies before changing the brief; keep the original task available to resolve disagreements about whether the work was completed.

USE THIS IN YOUR NEXT ROUND

Working example

Example Android assignment: Join the intended test track, open the current build, create a sample collection and try restoring it after restarting the app. Describe the result privately. Do not publish a store review as part of the assignment. A missing restore result is a finding to investigate, not a reason to withhold payment for documented work.

Your next steps

  • Read the deliverables, not just the sales headline.
  • Avoid ratings or review screenshots as payout conditions.
  • Check participation in your own Play Console.
  • Approve reports using the same evidence standard.
