Record where the feedback came from

Include build, track, device and task with each observation. A closed-test comment, a RateMyApp report and a production review may describe different versions and audiences. Do not merge their star averages or display private beta comments as store endorsements. The value of the evidence lies in what the person attempted and observed, not whether it increased a public counter.

Use private findings to improve the release

Group reports by core journey and reproduce the significant failures. Keep a separate list for suggestions that do not block the launch. Ask follow-up questions privately when context is missing, and avoid collecting account secrets. If a participant receives a research reward, make approval depend on the documented task rather than sentiment or a public posting requirement.

Communicate the limits in your launch claims

A completed test round does not guarantee production access, retention or public ratings. Explain the devices and languages covered and the changes retested. RateMyApp organizes approved private reports and optional community ratings; it does not import those scores into Google Play. Let actual release users form independent public opinions through the supported store process after using the product.

USE THIS IN YOUR NEXT ROUND

Working example

A release note can say ‘Closed testers found a restore problem, which we fixed and retested in build 15.’ It should not say ‘Twelve five-star Google Play reviews’ when the evidence is twelve private test reports. Label the channel on each report and keep the original observation so future debugging can distinguish beta behavior from the public version.

Your next steps

  • Label track, build and feedback channel.
  • Keep private reports separate from public rating totals.
  • Reward documented work rather than store posting.
  • State the tested release scope in launch claims.
