Validate the participant’s entry path

Use the external invitation route on a supported device. Check the build’s availability, first-run screens and any required test credentials through an appropriate secure channel. Confirm what happens when a person declines permissions, loses connectivity or closes the app. These conditions often differ from the state on a developer’s phone, which already has saved data and granted permissions.

Give the round one primary question

Choose onboarding comprehension, a reliability issue or another decision the test should inform. Define a short task and the report fields. Supply dummy data for sensitive flows and state which evidence may be shared. Do not ask testers to make real purchases to prove an integration; use the provider’s supported sandbox workflow and document the limits of the evidence.

Keep a release decision record

List the builds and devices tested, blocked journeys, fixes and retest results. Distinguish unresolved issues from ideas for later releases. A beta round cannot validate every device, legal disclosure or payment-provider setting automatically. Before submitting the public release, check metadata, privacy details and review access separately. Make the decision from the evidence actually collected, not the existence of a green build job.

USE THIS IN YOUR NEXT ROUND

Working example

A simple beta record can contain: build 6, three supported device families, first-run account creation, permission decline, saved-state restoration and a private feedback form. Add a result for each check and a link to evidence. Mark untested areas explicitly. This is a planning template; it does not imply that three devices establish complete coverage of every supported iOS configuration.

Your next steps

  • Check external installation and fresh account state.
  • Define one primary research question.
  • Use safe accounts and sandbox purchase workflows.
  • Record tested scope and unresolved release risks.
